Gawker reported today in its gossip roundup that the two were “whisper-fighting” on an Amtrak train to Washington, and while the brawl never escalated into a full-fledged fight, Lindsay was apparently talking smack about VP nominee Sarah Palin and advocating for herself rather than the couple.  The most troubling thing about this item?  The fact that Lindsay has to ride around the nation on a train than, say, in a private chauffered limo.  Ruh-oh…

Clay Aiken Successfully Distracts America From Dying Economy

Posted by thelanetrain on September 23, 2008

Well America, we finally found a way to take our minds off of the second great depression.  In what could be described as the biggest “No shit, sherlock” moment of the year, Clay Aiken, the androgynous bespectacled runner-up from the second season of American Idol is totally gay.  Who knew, right?  Did anyone really not see this coming?  Even after this shocker from waaaay back?  The story, which will be carried by People Magazine (above) has generated a resounding “finally!” from all of the webernets, including fellow gay Perez Hilton, who merely said:

“Welcome to the gayborhood, daddy!”

We’re so proud of you, Clay.  Now if only that other really famous gay celebrity will follow your lead…

Fuck You, Los Angeles Times

Posted by thelanetrain on September 15, 2008

Guess who’s having the biggest comeback of her career?  That’s right, this person is.  With the paparazzi no longer treating her like a piece of meat, her life in check, and after a stellar appearance at the VMAs, the pop princess will surely reclaim her spot on the A-list as a recording artist.  So why is the LA Times still calling her “troubled” and writing about her like she’s still boozing every night until 3?  No idea.  Hey editors of Soundboard:  you should really watch this.

Quote of the Day

Posted by thelanetrain on August 13, 2008

“That was special, but it was also strange because she’s (sister Jamie Lynn) always been the baby, and now the baby was having a baby. It was mind-boggling. I was shocked a little bit. But it was really cool.” – Britney Spears, on becoming an aunt.

Haha, the baby is having a baby.  So clutch Brit!

But seriously, it looks as if the tabloid queen slash popstar is on her way to making a huge comeback.  Britney recently gave an interview to OK! Magazine regarding her new drama-free ways and offered tidbits on her new album and hopes for her boys.  She says her new album will be released in the next 6-9 months and that she wants a normal life for Sean Preston and Jayden James.

In a related story, Spears was also rumored to have been chosen to play a killer lesbian stripper in an upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie, but those reports have been denied by her publicist.  Dammit…

Gone, But Not Forgotten

Posted by thelanetrain on August 11, 2008

This weekend, the world of entertainment lost two very special figures.  Isaac Hayes (above) died yesterday unexpectedly as his wife found him dead next to their treadmill.  Hayes was best known for recording the main theme to “Shaft” in 1971, and got a whole new generation to follow him when he became the voice of Chef on “South Park”.  He was also a major figure at Stax Records in Memphis and worked as a DJ at a soul New York radio station.  He was 66.

In addition, actor and comedian Bernie Mac, who starred in Ocean’s 11 and subsequent sequels, plus had a hit primetime TV show, died Saturday at age 50 due to complications from pneumonia.  A wise-cracking comic, he was recognized as one of the best black comedians of his time and was compared to Cedric the Entertainer and Chris Rock.

They will both truly be missed.

Mary-Kate Olsen: Actress, Socialite, Pusher?

Posted by thelanetrain on August 5, 2008

Everyone knows how crazy the Olsen Twins are, or really, how crazy Mary-Kate Olsen has been lately.  When we last saw her, she was locking lips onscreen with Sir Ben Kingsley in “some little indie film that nobody’s gonna see“.  Now she’s being shoved back into the media circus again, but this time, as suspect #1 in the investigation of Heath Ledger’s death.  FOR REAL?  What would Danny Tanner say?

After The Jump: Immunity, OxyContin, and why MKO is under fire.

And While We’re On The Subject, Here’s The Trailer For The Hills: Season 4

Posted by thelanetrain on July 22, 2008

I couldn’t help but post this after seeing it first on MTV, then again all over the internets.  It looks like a real-life movie!  With scripts!  Sometimes it’s hard to realize that these people are real people, and not actors.  Oh wait…

But from what I could tell, this season has (predictably) so much drama!  Brody Jenner (he’s not a real person anymore) goes to jail!  A love interest for Whitney! Heidi and Spencer bitch and fight at restaurants! Audrina and Justin Bobby have drama! Lo (who?) shakes things up!

Best part: Watch for LC’s incredibly well timed mascara-infused tears at 1:47.

This is the definition of ridiculousness.

UPDATE 7/23: Another great moment I just noticed: at 1:27, where LC belts out the oh so tired cliché, “This is the part where we need to make an effort,” and puts her hands up in her hair.  Seriously, they could not have hired better people to write the show.

Weekend Movie Preview: The Musical vs. The Man

Posted by thelanetrain on July 17, 2008

In what has proved to be a whirlwind summer movie season with some terrific hits and box office bombs, the madness continues to roll on with a couple of this weekend’s anticipated releases.  The main duel will be between Mamma Mia, the movie version of the hit musical based on the stylings of ABBA, and The Dark Knight, the latest in the Batman series featuring the late Heath Ledger as the joker.  So really, the choice is between a flashy, flamboyant musical or watching a guy in a full leather bodysuit, or as I like to call it, a jackpot weekend for the gays.

After The Jump: More movie details, and what the critics are saying (SPOILERS!)

Katie Back on the Small Screen in TV Show Nobody Watches…I Think

Posted by thelanetrain on July 16, 2008

Actress and Tom Cruise’s love slave Katie Holmes will be making her return to the small screen this fall with an upcoming guest appearance on ABC’s Eli Stone.  According to Reuters, network executives were excited to book the starlet for the series and show off her singing and dancing abilities.  Said one of the execs:

“It’s a really special piece of business…[the producer] came to me with the idea because he really had a creative way to do it. And he and Katie wanted to get back together and do something.”

Turns out the producer, Greg Berlanti, produced that other TV show that made Holmes a household name.  But I don’t buy this, “let’s reunite Greg and Katie for TV magic” excuse for a bit.  I bet this has something to do with the fact that nobody wants to see her on Broadway
