Weekend Box Office: Brendan Fraser’s B-Movie Makes The Top 3!

Posted by thelanetrain on July 14, 2008

It was an interesting weekend at the box office.  The much ballyhooed Hellboy II: The Golden Army took the number one spot, grossing just under $36 million.  In the number two spot was the anti-hero movie Hancock, which grossed $33 million over the last two days.  Finally, in a huge surprise, the first (and arguably weaker) of Brendan Fraser’s two summer movies, Journey to the Center of the Earth (in 3D!!!) came in third and grossed around $20 million.  Rounding out the top five were the two top movies from two weeks ago:  Wall-E at number four and Wanted at number five.

Meet Dave, the latest terrible Eddie Murphy movie, didn’t crack the top five and grossed a measly $5 million in its opening weekend.  I’m not sure why Murphy insists on continuing to make awful, unfunny comedies.  It’s gotten to the point where it’s no longer fun to watch.  Nothing will ever be as good as Trading Places.

Indiana Jones, however, has now been in the top ten for eight consecutive weeks.  Will it be nine after next weekend?
