Hey everyone, remember earlier this year when Miley Cyrus appeared like, almost naked in Vanity Fair? We totes thought that everyone involved, including the magazine, Annie Liebovitz, and most importantly, her father, would have known something about what was going to transpire. We couldn’t have been more wrong.
While appearing on The Today Show to promote another American Idol ripoff show, Billy Ray Cyrus told Meredith Viera that he “didn’t know they were gonna strip her down and wrap her in a blanket,” and that he felt as if “everything was in control.” Fine, Dad was clueless, and the photograph sparked a huuuuuge wave of controversy among conservative pundits and tween girls. But the best quote from today’s interview? When asked why he ever exchanged any words with Vanity Fair after the shoot, Cyrus replied:
“I didn’t because my dad always told me the more you stomp in poop the more it stinks.”
Honestly Billy Ray, we couldn’t have said it any better ourselves. Now run home to yer ma and pa for some chitlins before them gets cold.
In other related news, The Jonas Brothers, Disney’s latest teen/tween sensation, are being marketed as Jesus lovers.

Found this gem via The Approval Matrix. Blogger and cartoonist Jessica Hagy draws little venn diagram cartoons (like the ones you learned about in fourth grade) that are not only funny, but startlingly true. For example, I really liked this one:

It has got to be a slow news day for the celebrity gossip-hounds, blogs, and entertainment media. Why else would a third tier story like this make headlines on Google News today? This week, singer failed actress starlet socialite hollywood train-wreck tabloid fixture thing Britney Spears was actually given some good press in regards to a recent melee with a paparazzi photographer. As the Newark Star-Ledger reports (a better article was available on a more reputable news outlet, but they hate bloggers), the D.A. involved with the case points out that the accuser deliberately set himself up to be run over, thus framing Britney for the incident. Phew! Thank god, y’all. Now I feel so much safer on the roads.
Also related, Britney’s dad continues to mooch off his daughter’s wealth spending money.

Every year, something crazy always happens at Bonnaroo, the huge music (and now comedy) festival out in Bumblefuck Woods, Tennessee. But this year, a major hip-hop artist was on the bill, and it was none other than Kanye “George Bush doesn’t like Black people” West. According to E!, Kanye was slated to perform on Saturday evening at 8:15pm, but then asked to be pushed back to 2:45am so that he could make the most of some glow-in-the-dark stage effects bullshit. After Pearl Jam played an extended set that lasted until 1:15, roadies began setting up for West’s already pushed back performance, but some difficulties in the setup (including setting up an elaborate backdrop, glow-in-the-dark spaceship, and raised video monitors) pushed his performance back even further. And when he finally took the stage at 4:30 am, he got booed. Hardcore hippie style. At least from the few people in the crowd who weren’t asleep anyways.
Man, throw in some $5 water, unusable port-o-potties, and we could have had another Woodstock ‘99 on our hands, well, maybe if people weren’t so sleepy anyways.

Another item from The New York Times: Singer/Tabloid Staple/Train-Wreck Amy Winehouse was taken to a London hospital yesterday by her dad and publicist after fainting unexpectedly. Apparently, the doctors don’t know what’s wrong with her and have conducted a series of tests over the last two days to help determine the problem. Hmmm…maybe they should have seen something coming after Winehouse showed up two hours late and stumbling at a private gig in Moscow (where she made $2 million!). Or maybe it’s the massive amounts of cocaine. We don’t know. All we know is that she is more and more becoming the Britney Spears of England.
Without the whole getting knocked up thing.

Omigod you guys, did you see The Tony Awards on Sunday Night? No? Well, apparently, nobody did. The New York Times reports today that even after CBS’s dismal ratings for last year’s show, they still didn’t do any better this time around. In fact, CBS finished third among the major networks on Sunday night. Third. How is that even possible? What would keep people from watching theatre, gays, and theatre gays on live TV?
ABC was the big winner, actually, on Sunday night, with coverage of Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Lakers. They raked in 13.5 million viewers. Well, duh, a major sports rivalry easily beats a sissy awards show, but what about the #2 spot? NBC’s coverage of the hotly contested US Open tiebreaker between Tiger Woods and some dude, plus a clip show featuring the work of Mike Myers on Saturday Night Live, beat the Tonys with over double the viewing audience (NBC got just under 14 million viewers, while CBS had 6.2 million). That’s pretty sad, but at least CBS beat FOX, which I guess is sorta ok.
Just don’t tell these people that nobody will watch them when they get their big award someday. Actually, they probably won’t win any awards at all. Burn…
