It’s Friday Night, You Know What That Means…

Posted by thelanetrain on June 13, 2008

It’s Friday night in New York, which means that the nightly horde of the Bridge and Tunnel crowd will be descending upon Manhattan, most likely the skeevy dance clubs all up and down the West Side. For those living in the Tri-State area, you are probably intimately familiar with the “Guido“, and while I’m not about to have some hair gel abusing, Armani Exchange wearing, Grey Goose toting greaseball muddy up my blog, I did happen to stumble upon this amusing thread today about Guidettes, the female counterpart. These photos are not retouched in anyway. This is how they actually leave the house. I’m not sure how many of these women things are actually legal to drink, but I’m sure they have their fakes at the ready. If you spot one drunk at 1 AM whining about the stretch “Hummah” not being there and how they’ll have to hoof it on the LIRR or NJ Transit, think of me. The linked thread above has pleeeenty more amusing pictures. Enjoy!

M. Night Shyamalan Losing Street Cred With Latest Flick

Posted by thelanetrain on June 13, 2008

We totes saw this coming! M. Night Shyamalan, director of a couple good movies, and lately, a lot of shitty ones, finally cements himself as an overrated, arrogant director with his latest pretentious schlock. Aside from being completely shat upon on Gawker, the reviews for The Happening have not been kind at all. It received only a 21% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and not even Marky Mark could save it! The Boston Globe even admits that Shyamalan’s career is in its twilight, while The Detroit News had a much more earnest review:

“It’s downright stupid”

Yep, it’s probably safe to say that Shyamalan is slowly moving further and further from Hollywood’s list of respectable filmmakers. But you know what’s even more embarassing? That this so-called master of thrillers, horror, and suspense wrote the screenplay for this cinematic gem. Neat-o!

Drug Stores Sell Dangerous Items (duh)

Posted by thelanetrain on June 13, 2008

Everyone in New York knows that when you walk into a Duane Reade, it’s pretty much a “get in and out as soon as you can” attitude. The stores never really feel clean, the employees are surly, and even though you know you can find (almost) everything, there’s that lingering feeling that something’s amiss. Apparently, that’s just the case. The New York Times (how legit!) reported today that many drugstores across New York carried expired items like Milk, eggs, and (*gasp*) drugs, even though the expiration date passed long ago. I still think the “I’m standing here with a bunch of contraband items” shot makes the article seem oh so important. Even though we’re taking a good slap at Duane Reade, it DIDN’T come up as the worst offenders, but rather, the much cleaner-seeming Rite-Aid and CVS were the guilty ones in this case. The best quote of the article? When Attorney General Andrew Cuomo declared that “Consumers deserve what they pay for.” How true, because when I reach into the bargain box for milk, eggs, and drugs and pay 1/2 the price, I best be getting some rotten spoiled goodies!

Has-Been Falls For Wanna-Bes

Posted by thelanetrain on June 13, 2008

There’s that moment in pop culture when one wildly-popular-for-a-short-time star fades out of the spotlight and starts falling for the next biggest thing in that category.  That sad, yet perplexing moment happened yesterday, as Disney’s latest spun-off rock act The Jonas Brothers made an appearance on Live! With Regis and Kelly with who else but former American Idiot winner Taylor Hicks.  An article posted on People.com reports claims that Hicks “couldn’t resist partaking in Jonas Brothers mania with thousands of of other fans” outside the studios.  Says Hicks:

“Once I arrived and saw all the Jonas Brothers fans, I got in on the screaming. We were all having a great time out there…We were all just being fans and that’s a cool thing.”

Isn’t that nice?  Hicks is just trying so hard to keep his name in the headlines support fellow rockers.  He’s like a thirteen year old girl.  And he even has a favorite, Nick!  How cute.  Seriously, call us when you grow your testes back.

On the plus side, at least he’s not creepily obsessing over Disney jailbait.
